  15. The XAD system is for file extraction from archives! It can be compared
  16. to XFD system, which is for single file decrunching. They do different
  17. work, but are used together often.
  18.  
  19. This is a library providing an interface for unarchiving all possible
  20. types of file or disk archives. It is NOT an archiver GUI or anything
  21. like that. This system does the COMPLETE unarchiving stuff with internal
  22. routines, NOT calling shell programs or using other programs to do the
  23. work!

  25. The interface can be built by application programs like included shell
  26. utilities. It provides same features and interface for ALL types of
  27. supported archivers. E.g. virus checkers could use this system to do
  28. very comfortable background archive checking.

  41. - Added updated ASCII client. NOTE: I forgot last time, but ASCII is still
  42.   BETA and incomplete (but stable enough to be released). Don't wonder if
  43.   certain types are detected, but not extracted!
  44. - Bug fixes in exe2arc, Zip client, DMS client, Amiga filesystem client and
  45.   StuffIt client. Thanks Ronald van Dijk and Jürgen Klawitter for the reports.
  46. - Added improved version of CBM-8Bit external.
  47. - Added character set conversion functions into the master library and
  48.   support of different encodings as well as Unicode. It seems to be very hard
  49.   to get a xx.1 version of XAD. Originally planned as V11.1 this charset
  50.   stuff forced version increase to V12.
  51. - Added last (important) missing algorithm to StuffIt client. It should be
  52.   fully functional now (except of decryption). Also fixed recognition a bit
  53.   to detect newer StuffIt files with changed header. Thanks Matthew T.
